Patients’ Own Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo Biloba (commonly known as Ginkgo) is an ancient plant extract that is known to improve blood flow to the brain and act as an antioxidant.
Studies have found that Ginkgo may help to boost memory and cognitive speed in healthy people, whilst they have also shown that it can help with memory issues caused by Alzeimer’s disease and dementia.
There is also evidence to show that Ginkgo increases the production of the energy molecule ATP, and may also help with circulation problems and leg pain caused by clogged arteries. As well as this, some studies have suggested Ginkgo may help to relieve PMS symptoms, such as mood changes and breast tenderness.
For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia patients, Ginkgo is used to help combat cognitive difficulties (known as brain fog) as well as improve energy levels and help to reduce pain.
The following Chronic Fatigue Syndrome specialists recommend taking a Ginkgo Biloba supplement for CFS: The University of Maryland Medical Center, Dr Cheney, Dr Teitelbaum, Dr Podell, Dr Downing-Orr, Dr Pall and Dr Myhill.
The science behind our ginkgo biloba supplement
A 2002 trial published in The Journal of International Medical Research evaluated the efficacy of CoQ10 and ginkgo biloba supplementation on Fibromyalgia patients. Subjects were given 200 mg of coenzyme Q10 and 200 mg of Ginkgo biloba extract daily for 3 months. Quality of life was measured using seven different subjective responses. A progressive improvement in the quality of life scores was observed over the study period and at the end, the scores showed a significant difference from those at the start. This was matched by an improvement in self-rating with 64% claiming to be better.
